- Invoicing
Invoices show your VAT or GST number when the law asks for it
In the UK, Singapore and Australia, an invoice or debit note that charges VAT or GST can no longer be issued without your tax registration number (VAT number, GST number or ABN). Add it as your tax identification number in Settings > Company. Credit notes are not held back. A recurring invoice that finalizes automatically is paused and you are notified, instead of failing silently.
- Payroll
Book month-end leave and bonus accruals from payroll settings
Enter what your staff had earned in untaken leave and unpaid bonus at the end of a month, and Cynco books it as a liability on the month's last day and reverses it on the next month's first, so leave taken and bonuses paid later land against it. Each employer accrues once a month, and next month's balance corrects it. Once you keep accruals, the period close reminds you for any employer that has not accrued that month.
- Payroll
Run payroll with a second approver, and download every statutory file from the run
Set up your employer and pay cycle, add employees with the facts and pay that apply from a given month, and run payroll. Cynco names anything that stops an employee being paid, and a run is approved by someone other than the person who submitted it. An approved run gives you the CP39 and ASSIST files and a Maybank2E, CIMB or RHB salary file. At year-end, download each employee's EA, the C.P.8D and the Form E working. Their due dates appear on your statutory calendar.
- Tax and compliance
Form PT for limited liability partnerships
A PLT now prepares its Form PT in Reports, under Tax. Cynco works it out from your books the same way it does a company's Form C: accounting profit, add-backs, capital allowances and the company tax rates, including the SME rates when your PLT qualifies. Onboarding a PLT also sets up its income tax accounts at the company rate.
- Books
Keep a foreign-currency account in its own currency
Restrict an account to one currency, such as a USD bank account, and Cynco refuses any entry to it in another currency, while still revaluing it at period end and booking realised exchange gains and losses on it. You can also mark whether an account is monetary, which decides whether period-end revaluation retranslates its foreign balance.
- Books
Tell Cynco the day your books start
Setup now asks when your books in Cynco start, suggesting the first day of your current financial year. Your opening balances are dated the day before, and Accounting → Periods shows the date, lets you change it, and stops a change that would count a posted entry twice. Bank statement and invoice imports tell you how many rows fall before it.
- Books
Depreciate at a fixed rate on cost, down to 1.00
Choose Rate on cost for a fixed asset or category and enter the annual rate, such as 10% for renovation or 33.33% for computers. Each month charges that rate on the asset's cost until it is written down to 1.00, so it stays on your register until you dispose of it. As you type the rate, a preview shows the monthly charge, how many months are left, and the final charge.
- Books
Use your own exchange rates
Record your own exchange rate for a day, and Cynco uses it for your entries ahead of the shared rate feed, including for a currency the feed does not cover. Record your own month-end closing rate, and month-end revaluation uses it. Revaluation now takes the closing rate at the end of the last day of the month in your own time zone, and keeps the rate it used once the month has ended, so re-running it gives the same result. You can also store a month's average rate, taken from the daily rates in your time zone, and a historical rate, for your own reference.
- Reports
Statements that speak your kind of business
The balance sheet and the statement of changes in equity now use the words your legal form uses. A sole proprietor sees a capital account, drawings and accumulated profits instead of share capital and retained earnings. A partnership sees partners' funds and capital. A society or foundation sees its accumulated fund and the surplus or deficit for the year, and a trust sees its corpus and accumulated income. Companies see the same statements as before.
- Workspace
Your Australian books, set up for GST and a June year end
Australia is now open for sign-up. Pick it when you create your workspace and Cynco gives you a chart of accounts built for Australian accounting standards, invoicing in Australian dollars, GST on your tax invoices, your ABN or ACN on your company details, and a financial year ending 30 June. BAS, GST registration tracking, payroll, e-invoicing and taking card payments from your customers are not available yet.
- Workspace
Set up the people you pay back for what they spend
Under Purchases, Claims now has a People tab. Add someone from your team or invite them by email, choose who approves their claims, link them to payroll, and record whether they control the company through shareholding. People you invite join as employees: they see only their own claims, nothing else in your books, and they don't take a paid seat.
- Workspace
Write down what your team can claim
Claims now has a Policy tab. Choose the kinds of expense people can claim, the account each is booked to, and whether it is a business expense, a tax-exempt benefit or a taxable one. Set when a receipt is needed and how much a line or a month may claim, and record the mileage rate a kilometre is paid at. You start with a ready-made set of categories for your country, and can change any of them.
- Workspace
A checklist that shows what's left to set up
A Get started checklist in the sidebar walks you through bringing over your data, sending your first invoice, connecting your bank, capturing a bill or receipt and closing your first month. Each step ticks itself off as you do it, and you can dismiss the checklist whenever you like.
- Workspace
A page for every part of Cynco
cynco.io now has a page for each product, from invoicing and payroll to purchase orders, inventory, the data room and agents, and one for small businesses and accounting firms. Each page shows what the product does with real document formats and journal entries, so you can see how it works before you sign up.
- Workspace
See who joined, left or changed role on your team
The Team page now shows your team's recent activity: invitations sent, resent and cancelled, people joining by invitation or invite link, role changes, deactivations and removals, with who did each and when.

Protect your account with an authenticator app
Turn on two-factor sign-in under Settings, scan the code with an authenticator app, and keep the recovery codes somewhere safe. From then on, signing in with a password, an email link or Google asks for the six-digit code before you get in, and turning two-factor off asks for it too. We email you when two-factor is turned on or off, or when a recovery code is used.
Improvements
- Invoicing
You can add a customer without an email address. Sending them a statement tells you the email is missing and asks you to enter one.
- Invoicing
The PDF of an invoice, credit or debit note, or quotation is now kept exactly as it was issued, so downloading it again later gives you the same document your customer received rather than a fresh rendering of it.
- Payroll
The statutory calendar now lists each payroll payment you owe by agency (EPF, SOCSO, EIS, PCB, HRD Corp levy and zakat) for each month, with its due date, instead of only the CP39 and ASSIST returns. PCB is listed every month you run payroll, even when none was withheld. A company with more than one employer registration sees each employer's payments separately, named and linked to that employer's run.
- Payroll
Approving a payroll run now records its salaries, statutory contributions and net pay in your books as one journal entry, and approving a correction run reverses it.
- Books
A new Malaysian sole proprietor, partnership, PLT, society or trust now starts with equity accounts in its own terms. A sole proprietor gets a Capital Account, Drawings and Additional Capital Introduced instead of Share Capital and Dividends, and a partnership gets a Partners' Capital Account and a Partners' Current Account. Existing charts are not changed, and an account you renamed keeps your name.
- Books
When you close a month, a check that could not compare a balance to its records, such as a bank account not linked to the ledger or a disposed asset with no disposal entry, now shows as needing attention instead of passing. Each one says why, what it risks, and links to the record that fixes it. You can still close, and any note you leave is kept with the close.
- Books
Sales and service tax and US sales tax on a bill or vendor credit now stay with the cost of the purchase instead of being booked as recoverable tax, since neither can be reclaimed. GST and VAT you can reclaim still go to your recoverable tax account. Tax codes now also record which side of a document they may be used on, and a reverse-charge code self-assesses the tax on a purchase.
- Books
When you record a supplier's credit note, Add item now picks a product from your item library and fills the line with its name and unit cost, and the credit keeps which item each line returns.
- Workspace
See what is new in Cynco at cynco.io/changelog, or follow it by RSS.
- Workspace
Setting up a business now uses the same fields and choice cards as the rest of Cynco, and you can move between countries, industries and data sources with the arrow keys.
- Workspace
While you set up a business, the preview beside each step now shows your own invoice as you type, in your country's currency, invoice title and tax, and Cynco suggests your country from your time zone and your entity type from your business name.
- Workspace
The sign-in page has a new look and remembers your email and how you last signed in, so coming back takes one click. Untick "Save email and login method on this device" on a shared computer and Cynco forgets them straight away.
- Workspace
The sign-in and sign-up pages have a new look, and the password reset screens now match them. After you reset your password, the sign-in page confirms it worked.
Fixes
- Invoicing
After you issue a correction, leaving the invoice no longer asks whether to discard unsaved changes. When a correction opens a replacement invoice, that invoice now loads in the editor and warns you before you leave with unsaved edits.
- Invoicing
Correcting an invoice that already has notes no longer shows a total that leaves those notes out. The review now asks you to raise the change as its own note.
- Invoicing
The correction review for an issued invoice now starts its note sentence with a capital letter.
- Invoicing
A credit note for returned goods now puts them back into stock when they were shipped on a delivery order, not only when the invoice itself took them out.
- Invoicing
A credit note for returned goods now puts the goods back into stock and reverses their cost of sales. Voiding the note takes them back out.
- Invoicing
Finalizing an invoice in a foreign currency with no exchange rate for its date now stops and names the missing rate, instead of issuing an invoice that never reached your books.
- Invoicing
Your invoice PDF now labels your registration number by the type you registered under. A sole proprietor registered under an NRIC sees "NRIC" instead of "BRN", and a US business that chose "Other" no longer sees its number labelled "EIN".
- Invoicing
An invoice's tax rate now fills in only the lines that have no tax rate of their own, and it is never added on top of a line's rate. A line can be marked not taxable, so it pays no tax at all. Through the API, a line's taxRate is now applied instead of being ignored, and an unrecognised line field returns an error. Invoices issued before this change keep their totals.
- Invoicing
When the books can't accept a new invoice you finalize, for example because its period is closed or its exchange rate is missing, you now stay on the form with the reason instead of landing on an error page that discards your invoice.
- Invoicing
The PDF attached to a quotation's first email now shows the valid-until date the email gives.
- Invoicing
An invoice with a credit or debit note against it can no longer be moved back to draft. Void the note first, the same as when voiding the invoice.
- Invoicing
An invoice is now titled "Tax Invoice" or "VAT Invoice" only when your business is registered for GST or VAT, or the invoice charges it. A business in Singapore, Australia or the UK that is not registered now issues an "Invoice", and a registered business in Singapore or the UK keeps the tax-invoice title on a zero-rated invoice. The invoice preview and the page your customer opens now show the same title as the PDF, including a custom header from your template.
- Banking
Accepting a suggested account on a bank line no longer creates a new rule, so one-off payments no longer become standing payee rules. A rule still learns when you pick a different account. When you save a rule, you can now apply it to the unposted lines already in your feed, including lines you categorized yourself if you choose.
- Banking
A business whose country is set to somewhere other than Malaysia no longer starts with Malaysian bank rules, such as EPF, LHDN and TNB, when it adds its first bank account, and a firm's close checklist for such a client no longer asks for EPF and SOCSO payroll or an SST review.
- Tax and compliance
The standard and reduced rated tax on your SST-02 return now match the tax on your invoices, and add up to the total. Before, they could be off by a few sen, or much more when the rate changed during the period.
- Books
Setting up a chart of accounts now names your accounting standard as you know it, such as FRS 102 in the UK, SFRS in Singapore and US GAAP in the US, instead of a short internal code like "FRC".
- Books
An invoice, bill, payment or bank account created without a currency, from the API, the CLI or an AI assistant connected over MCP, now uses your books' base currency, or your country's currency before your books are set up, instead of Malaysian ringgit. A Cynco Billing charge is now recorded in the currency it was charged in. The Add bank account form now starts on your base currency and lists every currency.
- Books
Books with no fiscal year end set now ask you to set one under Accounting → Periods before they post, instead of posting on a guessed 31 December year. Existing books that never had one keep the year end they were already posting on, now saved as their setting: your company's fiscal year end, or 31 December if it had none. A business that skips the year-end question at sign-up now starts on its country's usual year end, such as 30 June in Australia, and scheduled automations run in your business's own time zone instead of Malaysian time.
- Books
The fixed-asset check in the period close checklist now compares the asset register as it stood at the end of that period with the ledger. Buying, disposing of or revaluing an asset later, or running a later month's depreciation, no longer turns an earlier period's check into "not comparable".
- Books
The New schedule button on revenue recognition shows its label again, instead of an empty box.
- Books
An opening receivable now takes its invoice number from its own date. A balance brought forward at 31 December 2024 is numbered INV-202412, not the month you entered it.
- Books
When a foreign-currency invoice is paid at a different rate than it was issued, the exchange gain or loss is now booked even if it could not be at the time of payment, for example because the gain and loss accounts were not yet in your chart or the period was closed. The books pick it up within the hour once the way is clear, and each payment gets the entry once.
- Books
An invoice or credit note line that carries a tax code now posts its tax under that code, so two codes at the same rate, such as a zero-rated and an exempt line, each reach their own box on the tax return instead of being filed under one. Lines saved without a code post as before.
- Books
Annual and quarterly subscription revenue now defers into your chart's Unearned Revenue account in Singapore, the UK, the US and Australia, instead of a customer deposits account that shared its code with Malaysia's.
- Books
Goods you return to a supplier on a vendor credit now leave your stock. A line linked to a stock item takes those units out of inventory at what the bill paid for them, and voiding the credit puts them back. A credit that returns more than you hold is refused.
- Books
Changing a book's financial year end no longer renumbers the months of a financial year you have already closed. If a financial year is closed, either through its closing entry or because its year-end month is closed, the change is refused with a message naming that month, so reopening a month inside that year keeps asking you to reopen the year end first, as it should. Setting up a company whose books already have a closed year now says its year end was not changed, instead of finishing as if it had been.
- Books
When a year end change is blocked by more than one closed financial year, Accounting → Periods now tells you to reopen each of those years, in any order, instead of asking you to reopen "that year".
- Reports
The last posting time on the reports page now shows in your business's time zone instead of your computer's.
- Reports
Reports and their Excel and PDF exports now label amounts in your book's base currency, so a Singapore book no longer shows its figures as RM.
- Reports
Reports, their exports and the accounting pages that share their formatting now write dates, times and numbers the way your country does, so a US company sees "Oct 08, 2026" and a UK company sees 24-hour times. Malaysian companies see no change.
- Workspace
Setting up a company now refuses an entity type Cynco does not recognise, instead of saving it and showing it as unknown later.
- Workspace
Moving straight from one record's page to another of the same kind, such as one payroll run to the next, now shows the record you opened instead of the one you left.
- Workspace
When an accounting firm signs up outside Malaysia, the firm details step no longer shows Malaysian examples. The firm name, registration number and address examples now follow the firm's country, and the registration field names the number the firm's invoices carry, such as a UK company number or an Australian ABN.
- Workspace
When you set up a business, Cynco now accepts the registration number exactly as your registry prints it, including a Malaysian SSM number with the old number in brackets, a Singapore business UEN and a UK company number with a two-letter prefix, and tells you on the company step if a number doesn't look right instead of failing at the end. Switching country no longer carries the previous country's answers across, and each country sees its own terms, such as FRS 102 in the UK and "fiscal year" in the US.
- Workspace
A business in the UK, the US or Australia that has no registration number, such as a sole trader, can now finish setting up by choosing No registration number, instead of being stopped at the company step.
- Workspace
The password strength check on sign-up and password reset no longer says Strong for a password that is then refused, and it tells you why a password is still too weak.
- Workspace
A firm working on a client outside Malaysia is no longer offered the SST review task or the tax compliance skill for that client, and a question about sales tax no longer starts an SST review for them.
- Workspace
Continuing an existing chat no longer runs the SST review or the tax compliance skill for a client outside Malaysia, and a firm can no longer save its own version of the tax compliance skill for such a client.
- Workspace
Removing a teammate who had invited others or recorded work no longer fails, their API keys stop working when they leave, and joining through an invitation with Google or Microsoft now gives the role the invitation offered.
- Workspace
Removing, deactivating or cancelling an invitation now frees a seat straight away, invites sent at the same moment can no longer go past your plan's seat limit, and deactivating a teammate asks for your password.
- Workspace
When you ask the workroom assistant to draft a task your client's country doesn't support, such as an SST review for a client outside Malaysia, it now tells you the task isn't available instead of reporting that the tool failed.
